Tuesday fun!

We had fun checking out the school store today and making our first purchases!  If they didn't bring money today, they can purchase items every Monday from 8-8:20 a.m.

We had counselor with Mrs. Davison today. We learned about how everyone makes mistakes and it's ok.  Mistakes help us learn!  If we didn't make mistakes, we wouldn't be learning anything! We also talked about the importance of handling our mistakes in a calm, problem-solving way and not letting it upset or frustrate us.

Happy December

The Friday Folders are FULL of information this week, so I'm going to try and make this short and sweet and full of pictures and not as many words.

On library check out day we now get options after checking out a book.  

We can sit and read our book or put together puzzles!

Shared Reading

Practicing our word wall words by reading our books Carlos and his teacher and Muscles. We also learned the poem Jack and Jill.

Learning about calculators this week!  So fun!

Writing Workshop

Each child has their own writing goal.  Many of them thought of what they do well in writing and what they could improve on and came up with their own goal!

Friday Craft

Today we learned about Kwanza and made a mkeka (muh-kay-kuh), which is like a placemat.  They place the kinara (kee-nah-ruh), a Kwanzaa candle holder, on top of the mkeka.  We learned that Kwanza is celebrated by some African cultures and lasts for 7 nights.

Snowy Days

I'm glad everyone made it to school today, despite the unexpected snowy and icy conditions this morning.

Coming to school on time every day is so important and you did a great job of that last week!  In fact, our class had the best attendance out of the entire school and was announced at the Monday Meeting!  This means our class earns an extra recess this week!  We will try and take our extra recess tomorrow when it's hopefully a bit warmer!

We have enjoyed learning more about Hanukkah this week.  Check out our craft from Friday and the words we have learned.  We also learned a poem called Dreidel, Dreidel and how to play the Dreidel game.  The poem and game directions are in your child's take home folder from either yesterday or today.  

We will now begin to learn about Kwanza.

Don't forget to sign and return your child's November reading log.  The December log came home in last week's Friday Folder.

Don't forget to check your child's take home folder for their spelling word paper and practice at home nightly.  The paper always looks similar to this.
