Some like to call this month "No School November," which is true, but it is also the busiest month! Heroes Day, Book Fair, Parent-Teacher conferences, Thanksgiving! Oh my!
Happy Birthday Dr. Majerus!! They loved making these special crowns to celebrate our wonderful principal today! We also made him a birthday book and sang Happy Birthday!
A look at our learning over the past 2 shorter weeks...
Fundations: we learned the lowercase x and y. We have now learned 24 out of 26 lowercase letter names, sounds and correct letter formation. The only two letters we have left to learn are qu and z. We will work on those the week we return from Thanksgiving break.
It is important that your child knows and uses, at all times, the correct letter formation for all of these letters at all times. Not just during our Fundations time. They must now form their letters correctly "for the rest of their life." (as I tell them).
Please use the following verbal prompts at home:
x: slant down, slant down backwards
y: slant down, slant dow...n backwards to the worm line (the short side of the y should be written first)
Shared Reading: we have read many books that featured our new word of the week, can. Going Places, I Can Help, and You Can Go.
In the pictures below they are "buddy reading" these books. Notice how good readers point to the words when they read.
Writing Workshop: we have now learned all 6 steps of the writing process. This is the order we follow when writing stories. I hope you enjoyed the stories your child brought home on Wednesday when we cleaned out their folders and could see the growth they have made over the course of first trimester.
Math: we've worked a lot on numbers, counting and writing our numbers lately. Check out their Friday Folder for ways to practice at home and to see their turkeys that helped us with our numbers to 10.
Science: we've been learning about weather the past couple of weeks. We have had about a 30 minute science lesson each day. We've learned how to be weather watchers, know how to dress for different types of weather, thermometers, wind, seasons, how the sun warms the Earth, etc.
We've learned how to play some new board games this week!
Looking so nice for "Dress to Impress" day!
