A look at our learning...
Fundations: we completed unit 3 and will begin Unit 4 next week. Unit 4 will focus on diagraphs, which are two letters that make one sound (wh, ch, sh, th, ck), trick words (words that can't be sounded out) and writing sentences with capitalization at the beginning, punctuation at the end, word spaces between words, quickly spelling known words and tapping out unknown words.
Next week's spelling words:
he
she
we
Tattling vs. Reporting: as mentioned last week, we spent time this week learning the difference between tattling and reporting. We read the book A bad case of tattle tongue by Julia Cook, learned the 4 tattle rules and did several sorts to help us decide if something would be tattling or reporting. Yesterday they brought home one of these sorts. Today in their Friday Folder you will see a tattling vs. reporting resource you can use at home. While it won't improve overnight, I'm hopeful that next week will be better. I have seen an improvement in the classroom, but lunch supervisors report it is still a problem in the cafeteria. This is a tough skill for elementary students to learn, but together we can help them improve.
Writing Workshop: all students have completed their first informational/non-fiction writing piece about penguins! They were so excited! Their writing is amazing! I can't wait for them to be able to share it with you when you come for "Breakfast, Books and Buddies" on Friday, March 24th. Next week we will begin researching another animal to write about!
Friday craft: we made leprechaun hats to hang in our classroom and worked on these adorable writing pieces "who is worth more to you than a pot of gold?" They are so sweet! You can see them below and on the bulletin board outside of our classroom.
Service learning penny drive: we are collecting pennies for 2 more weeks for the United Community Builders preschool/daycare program! The last day is March 24th. Keep sending in those coins!
Lunch with the Principal: yay Dalton! He was chosen to have Lunch with the Principal for the month of March! They had fun playing Uno with Mrs. Nickens and eating lunch together!
Special visitor: today my god-daughter (her mom is my best friend since elementary school) job shadowed. She is a senior in high school and trying to figure out her career path. We loved having her visit!
Thanks for everything you do! Happy weekend!
