What a fun week! I always love seeing the kids again after a long break, was SO EXCITED to use the St. Louis Cardinal tickets the class gave me for Christmas on Wednesday and had a fun celebration for my birthday on Friday! Thanks to all who donated towards the baseball tickets at Christmas, cupcakes, donuts, decorations and Jina Yoos Gift Card for my birthday. I used part of the Jina Yoos gift card last night! One of my favorite places! I also love and appreciate the individual gifts and cards as well!
Another favorite "gift" was hearing a few kiddos argue over if I was 26 or 41. Let's just say, the kids thinking I'm 26 just may be my favorites! 😂
A few pictures from the game. One of my childhood friends was able to go with me. We always try to go to at least one game a year together.
A look at our learning...
Fundations: this week we focused on the diagraph ck. We are learning that this diagraph appears at the end of a word AND follows a short vowel sound. Check your Friday Folder for ways to work on this at home as well.
Shared Reading: we reviewed the tricky word said and ALMOST every child spelled it correctly on their test this time! It will continue to appear weekly on the spelling test, so keep practicing. We continue to work on strategies to use when we come to an unknown word when reading.
Next week's spelling words:
they
her
Writing Workshop: we finished up our informational writing unit. This is always a favorite unit of the students. They have learned so much about penguins and elephants. We will clean out writing folders next week and they will bring these amazing writing pieces home for you to keep! I am SO PROUD of them and I hope you are too! Definitely worth hanging on the fridge!
We will begin our final writing unit of the year: opinion writing. We will work on forming an opinion and writing 3 supporting reasons that go with our opinion.
Math: we spent several days this week learning more about money as we counted our change for Kindergarten's Service learning project. A BIG SHOUT OUT to our class as we raised WAY more than any other Kindergarten class this year. The other classes raised between $25-50 each and our class raised $184 (approximately)! So incredible!
We learned the following ways to count change:
100 pennies equals $1.00
4 quarters equals $1.00
10 dimes equals $1.00
20 nickels equals $1.00
We will take the money to the bank to officially be counted and then proceed with purchasing toys for the United Community Builders preschool program. They asked for blocks and we will use our Opinion Writing unit to come up with other ideas of toys we might purchase. Service Learning carries over into our academics so well!
Friday Craft: we read several Spring and Easter books this week and made bunnies to bring home!
Shakespeare's Pizza Fundraiser: Congratulations to Ayla and Bella! They earned a trip to Shakespeare's Pizza on Friday for lunch for selling the most amount of pizzas (Ayla) and randomly being chosen out of all of Kindergarten (Bella). Sounds like they all had a great time!
