A look at our learning...
Fundations: we continue to work on tapping out 3 letter words when reading and writing. Check out their great work in the pictures below! We are also learning about the "bossy" or silent e that some words have at the end. We are learning that sometimes the "bossy e" tells the first vowel in the word to say it's name. Words such as cape, made, like, etc. have the "bossy e."
Shared Reading: we read the Big Books They are on and He said no to help us practice our new spelling words on and said. Said is a super tricky word, but one they will see often when reading!
Our words next week are also tricky. I highly encourage you to begin practicing this weekend, especially since next week is busy with the 100th day of school and Valentine's day party AND there are 3 new words next week. We won't always have 3, but these tie in with our Fundations trick words that are introduced next week.

Writing: I am truly blown away at the writers your children are becoming! The story hand I talked about in last week's blog is really helping them to tell more detail and the tapping practice from Fundations is being applied in their writing as well! I can't wait to show you side-by-side writing pieces from the beginning of the year until now when you attend parent teacher conferences in a few weeks! I think you will be amazed at how far they have come!
Math: this week we worked more on addition through games and stories, revisited shapes and went on a shape walk to find shapes in our environment and revisited teen numbers.
By the end of trimester 2 (which is next week), your child should be able to:
*Count to at least 60 by 1's and 10's
*Count backwards from 10
*Count and record a set of objects to 10
*Identify most basic shapes from the following: square, circle, rectangle, triangle, rhombus (diamond), hexagon, trapezoid
*Write and recognize 15 out of 20 numbers from 0-20
Can your child do these things independently? If not, now is a great time to start practicing!
Counselor: Mrs. Bergeson talked with the class about different feelings we might have and how all feelings are valid. They also talked about how it's ok to have various feelings, but how we handle those feelings is very important.
This week was also National School Counselor's Week. We are so lucky to have 3 amazing school counselors at Beulah Ralph: Mrs. Bergeson, Mrs. Alls and Mrs. See! We made a special book for Mrs. Bergeson, similar to the birthday books we make for students, to let her know how much we love her!
Packmate of the Month: yay Colt! He was chosen, by his peers, as our February Packmate of the Month.
Lunch with the Principal: Maggie and Carter were chosen for January and February Lunch with the principal! They had lunch and enjoyed games with Mr. Foulk. We combined the months due to the January one being on a snow day.
Super Bowl Spirit Week: we had so much fun participating in Super Bowl Spirit Week this week! Check out the cute photos from each day below! Now, let's cheer the Chiefs onto a big win this weekend!
There are WAY more pictures (including individual photos of each child with a cardboard cutout of Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce) on our class Facebook page.
Global School Play Day: as Mr. Rogers said "Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning, but for children play IS serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood." We had such a fun day today learning through play and I love that Beulah Ralph values this day every school year.
100th Day of School: we are SO excited for the 100th day of school on Monday! Please see your child's Friday Folder for a reminder about how we will celebrate this special day. We hope ALL students will participate! Please make sure your child arrives to school on time, as our fun will start right away and I don't want them to miss out on anything!
Be sure to check out the class Facebook page because I have shared dress up ideas if you need them!
Valentine's Day: if your child hasn't started working on their valentines, start this weekend! It is important that the student is the one who writes their name and their friends name on their valentine. This is good practice for them! However, sitting down to do all of them at once will be overwhelming and tough. I recommend doing a few each day. Information about this was sent home a few week's ago in Friday Folders, as well as a class list of names.
More fun and learning at school
