Happy Spring Break!

 A look at our learning...

Fundations: we continued our work on digraphs and fluently reading sentences.  We are learning that when we read, we want to sound like we do when we talk and not like robots (word by word).

Shared Reading: we read the Big Books She Will Be and Muscles to help us with our new spelling words of the week.  One book is fiction and one non-fiction and we discussed the differences between genres.

New spelling words after Spring Break

Writing: they are doing a great job on the opinion unit of study.  This week we learned different ways we can start our opinion pieces and that we don't need to always start with "I like..."  Check out the photo below for some of the ways we can start an opinion piece.  This week we wrote about our favorite special and 3 reasons why and our favorite place between Tiger Bounce and Sky Zone and 3 reasons why.

Math: we are finishing up unit 6 in math.  This week we learned a new game called Hiding Bears that helped us make various combinations of 10, played another game called Growing and Disappearing Train that focuses on addition and subtraction, and a sorting game where we had to think about attributes of various shapes.

Counselor: this week they talked about careers and needs vs. wants.  This is a tricky one for Kindergarteners, but a great one! They may think they need toys, but really it's a want.  Also a great lesson about being grateful and appreciative for what they do have.

Rock Bridge High School Show Choir: on Thursday, K-2 students were fortunate enough to watch an amazing performance put on by the Rock Bridge High School Show Choir. There were several former Beulah students who performed!  It was so good!  I will post more photos and a video on the class Facebook page.

St. Patrick's Day: that sneaky leprechaun sure got us good!  I thought we might be safe with St. Patrick's Day falling on a Sunday, but nope!  Check out the mess he made in the classroom while we were at recess! I also posted a video of their reactions on our class Facebook page earlier in the week.  Luckily, he dropped his bucket of gold and we were all able to take home a few pieces!  He also left us some notes!  Turns out, he is friends with Jack our Elf on the Shelf!  What?!

I sure do love this magic of Kindergarten!  Moments like this are why I'm a Kindergarten teacher.  They may not remember what specific letters, words or numbers they learned in Kindergarten, but they will remember special moments like this, 100th day, field trips, playing in the snow on a random day, etc.

Fun at school
