A look at our learning...
Fundations: all year we have known c and k make the same sound and we always just had to guess which letter we used for certain words....until now! We learned that we have to listen to the vowel sound that follows the /c/ or /k/ sound to help us determine if we use a c or a k. If we hear the a, o or u sound, we use the letter c. If we hear the i or e sound, we use the letter k. We have the poster you see below to use as a resource when tapping out and spelling words. The kiddos have done a GREAT job of using this chart to help them know which letter to use.
Shared Reading: this week we read the Big Book The Little Red Hen and another version called The Little Red Hen Makes A Pizza. We enjoyed finding similarities and differences between the two books. These books also featured our new spelling word "said" over and over again. Check out your child's Daily Take Home Folder for a version of the story they wrote to share with you! A great way to practice our spelling word and compare and contrast books.

Writing: they are doing a great job sharing their opinion on various topics and supporting their opinion with 3 reasons why they feel that way. We are really working hard on writing longer pieces, sounding out words and writing sounds that make sense, using 2 finger word spaces and ending with punctuation. Next week will be our final week of the opinion writing unit.
Math: we took math outside several days this week due to the beautiful weather in the afternoon! We used sidewalk chalk to solve subtraction story problems and write our numbers to 20. Another day we learned a subtraction game called Disappearing Train and took the game outside to play. Check your child's Friday Folder for ways you can play this subtraction game at home, as well as other subtraction activities. We also worked on 3D shapes.
Check out the class Facebook page for even more photos from our math time outside.
Counselor: this week Dr. Alls and Mrs. Nelson discussed careers during counselor time. We enjoyed hearing the students hopes and dreams for when they are older!
Lunch with the principal: yay Jack! He was chosen to have Lunch with the Principal for the month of March! He enjoyed lunch with Mrs. Isenogle and these kindergarten friends.
Library: Mrs. Fitch taught us about graphic novels on Tuesday. Many students chose to check one out this week!
Read aloud: Mrs, Isenogle, our assistant principal, visited our classroom this week to read to us. She read the book I Promise by Lebron James. We enjoyed this special time with her!
