A look at our learning...
Fundations: the final parent packet of the year is in your child's Friday Folder. While we want students to rest and relax over the summer, it is also important to work on things over the summer, at least a couple times a week. Reading is SO important and should occur daily. Reading to them and having them read to you. Both are important. Please continue to practice their spelling words and reinforce correct letter formation, sounding out words, etc. over the summer. This will help them begin first grade with ease!
Inside the Friday Folder are also several papers from me with ideas on how to extend their learning throughout the summer in fun ways, how to get in 20 minutes of reading daily and math games that only require dice or a deck of playing cards. I hope you find these helpful and will try some of the activities throughout the summer!
Spelling Test: yesterday was our last regular spelling test of the year. We will have our end of year test over ALL 45 spelling words on Tuesday. Although this test will be long, it should not be difficult . They should already know how to read and write all 45 words learned throughout the school year, however, extra practice over the next few days is always a good idea! Get out the sidewalk chalk and practice outside while enjoying the beautiful weekend weather!
Math: we have completed our final math unit of the year and the final parent packets are in your child's Friday Folder.
JMS Zoo: we enjoyed our trip to the Jefferson Middle School zoo on Monday. CPS is so lucky to have this amazing opportunity. The tours are led by middle schoolers who take care of the animals. We saw birds, rabbits, fish, snakes, lizards, bearded dragons and more! Here are a few photos, but even more are on the class Facebook page.
Field Day: we had a BLAST at Field Day and could not have asked for more perfect weather! A huge THANK YOU to Coach C, teachers and parent volunteers who helped make this day possible! BEU does Field Day like no other! A few pictures are below, but so many more are posted on the class Facebook page.
Year 9 Drone Photo: one of our favorite traditions at BEU is to capture a schoolwide drone photo in the shape of the number representing how many years our school has been open. This year marks our 9th anniversary, and we had so much fun taking this photo earlier this week. Look for it to be hanging in the halls next year along with the other numbers!
Alphabet Countdown: this week we were cozy in PJ's on P for Pajama Day, had a quiet and (mostly) calm day on Q for Quiet Day (they loved hearing Mr. B share some of his favorite read alouds on this day), always love an extra recess on R for Recess Day, snuggled with our favorite stuffies on S for Stuffed Animal Day and shared about some special objects on T for Treasure Day.
Sneaky Reading Challenge: I think this has been our best month yet! 13 out of 18 students have shared the May Sneaking Reading Challenge, read outside, on either our class Facebook page or sent via email to share in class! We have one week left and I'd love to see all 18 students complete the challenge! Let's do it!
Sneaky Reading was created to encourage a love of reading and show that reading can be fun and done anywhere! I greatly appreciate the families who took time to do this each month with their child and grow their love of reading! You are amazing!
