Germ Lesson
Nurse Carol came to visit all of the Kindergarten classrooms today to teach us about germs!
She had a nursing student from Mizzou, Caroline, helping as well.
She went over proper hand-washing and ways to prevent the spreading of germs.
We put germs on our hands (lotion) and then each child was told to wash their hands. After they washed their hands they put their hands under the black-light. This showed us if we were hand-washing experts or if there were places we need to pay more attention to when hand-washing. This was pretty cool! Nurse Carol reported that our class does a pretty good job of washing their hands and the few trouble spots she saw were under our fingernails and near our wrists.
Ask your child to show you how to properly wash their hands and what song they should sing while scrubbing with soap to ensure we get rid of all germs!
They have a coloring sheet in their take home folder from our lesson today.
A few things we talked about:
*using your "cough pocket" when you sneeze or cough, rather than your hands
*using a tissue, rather than our finger, when our nose is bothering us
*hand sanitzer is ok, but soap and water is the best
*keeping our hands out of our mouth
Substitute teacher
Yesterday I was gone for a personal day. Although they have had substitute teachers in other classrooms, it was the first time this year I have been absent. Mrs. Groner, a BEU parent, was their substitute teacher. She said overall they had an amazing day and she would gladly come back to our classroom again! That is great to hear! As a reward, I brought small cupcakes to share today, they each received a fun Halloween bat ring and we added a few more Halloween decorations to their room!
I told them it pays to make good choices, even when Ms. Concannon isn't watching! 😃
Morning Work
During the 8:00-8:20 time we are doing a variety of things. Some days we work on handwriting sheets to reinforce what we are learning during Fundations. Some days we do morning tubs that focus on different skills: fine motor activities, board games to work on teamwork, etc. Although they don't have to be here until 8:20, this is a time that the students enjoy getting here for and is a learning time as well. Thank you for allowing the students to enter the room independently, so they can start their learning with their friends. Below are some of the morning tubs we have right now that work on fine motor skills and teamwork.
Library Books
A friendly reminder from me and the lovely ladies in the library to PLEASE have your child keep their books in their backpacks at all times, unless reading it. Once they are finished reading, it needs to go right back in their backpack. Over the past few weeks we have had many friends in my class not have their books on our library day (which is every Tuesday). The library will always let them come down when they return their book to get a new one, even if it isn't a Tuesday, but it is much easier and preferred if they have the book on our assigned day. I know it is difficult to keep track of so many schedules between school, families, home, work, etc. which is why we ask that the book just stays in the backpack at all times except when reading. Thank you for helping with this at home.
