International Day
Last week we were able to skype with my former student teacher, Ms. Melissa, who teaches in Budapest, Hungary.
We skyped from 8:30-9:00 in the morning USA time, which is 4:30-5:00 Hungary time. Several of her 2nd grade students were kind enough to stay after school to skype with us!
They taught us several words in Hungarian
Hello is "Szia" (see-ya)
Cat is "cica" (see-sah)
Soccer or Football is "foci" (fo-see)
Goodbye is "viszlat" (vieese lat)
For Christmas, Mikulas (Santa) comes on December 6th and brings chocolates and smaller presents. On December 25th, baby Jesus brings the bigger Christmas presents.
They have many lakes in Hungary, the largest being Lake Balaton, which is known as the "Sea of Hungary." It is comparable to our Lake of the Ozarks.
They also wrote and mailed us letters. Ms. Melissa took pictures of every letter for me to print out just in case we don't receive them before school is over. We will write them back as well.
International Day on Friday was a huge success! I am sad I missed it! Our class learned about India, Romania, Egypt and Mexico. Aadyha's family presented about India and the girls were able to try on beautiful sarees.
Pushes and Pulls
Today we finished our final science unit. We had to figure out how to move rocks from one side of our "yard" to the other side so that we could put in a swingset. Ask your child to tell you about it and to show you their Launch Log that is in their take home folder. This will explain the work we did all last week and today.
P is for Pajama Day
We are posing in our pj's with one of the 6 tubs filled with games, puzzles and snacks we are taking to Columbia Manor on Thursday!
Kindergarten and 2nd grade tied for the best attendance last week! We will be celebrating with an extra recess this week!
