What's happening in Room 302?

A look at our learning this week...

Fundations: we continue to work on learning how to tap out words to help us read and write.  I encourage you to look at the Fundations packet sent home this week, and the last couple of weeks, that has you practice tapping out words with your child at home.  This extra practice at home will help them become better readers and writers in the classroom and to meet end of Kindergarten benchmarks.
We are also quickly reviewing uppercase letters each day.  It is a quick review as most Kindergartners typically come into school knowing uppercase letters.

Shared Reading: our new words this week were on and we. We read two poems that featured these words: Snow is Falling and Snowman. We also read two big books with these words in them: We make cookies and The big game.
I will not introduce new words next week due to winter break and a short week.  The next set of new words will be sent home on Monday, January 7th.  I encourage you to practice the old words a couple of times over break so they don't forget them.

Writing Workshop: every child continues to work on their writing goal I posted about last Friday.  We are also working on adding more details to our stories by writing 2-3 sentences, rather than just 1.  We have new paper with 2 lines on it to help with this. Several children have even started turning the paper over to write more on the back!  Yay!

Math: we worked on shapes and teen numbers this week.  We are singing this song every day at math to help us learn our teen numbers.  Teens are tricky as many children flip flop them....71 instead of 17, 81 instead of 18, etc.  This song is good at helping us correct that.

Yay Jo!
He was chosen, by his peers, as our December Citizen of the Month!

Look who came to school today!!

Friday craft: today we learned about Christmas and read a very funny and silly book!  We made reindeer to hang in our classroom!  We've enjoyed learning about all of the December holiday's this month: Hanukkah, Kwanza and Christmas!
