Last week of virtual learning

Yay!  We completed our last day of virtual learning!   While it certainly was different and not ideal, the children did an amazing job.  I am so impressed with how they handled everything.      I have said this entire time that children are resilient and I have found change has been much harder on adults than the little ones.  I am beyond proud of them and hope you are to!

I am going to make this update short, as I know we have bombarded you with information this week.  However, I do want you to stay up to date with your child's learning.

A look at our learning...

Fundations: we learned the name, sound and correct letter formation for lowercase i and u

Please use the following verbal prompts with your child:

i-down, dot

u-down, curve up, down

Shared Reading: we are learning the difference between fiction and non-fiction books.  We continue to show we are strong listeners by responding to questions and participating in discussions about the books we read. We read books about bats: Stellaluna (fiction) and Bats (non-fiction).

Math: we focused on ways to make 5 using household objects and a 5 frame.  There are many ways to make a number.  5 can be made with 3 and 2 or 4 and 1, etc.  Encourage your child to show you numbers in many different ways.  For now the focus is showing numbers 0-5 in different ways, but if your child is ready for the challenge use numbers 0-10.

Science: this week we discussed things that living things need versus things they might want.

Writing: this week we learned the word wall word likeYour child should be able to read, write and spell this word correctly at all times now.  We made a chart of family words to help us when writing.  We wrote about people in our family we like and things we like.

We also learned how to draw people using shapes.  We want to get away from drawing stick people or spider people (a circle with 4 lines coming out of it for a head, arms and legs).  If you see your child drawing stick or spider people, please encourage them to try and use shapes to draw people.

Mystery Reader: On Monday, Mrs. Rogers was our second Mystery Reader.  She is our assistant principal.  She read the book Lola at the library.

Have a great weekend!  Make sure you get their backpack packed with ALL of their school supplies and label everything.  Please make sure you also send back all materials they have been using for school and their iPad.  Their charger will stay at home with you.  iPads will go back and forth from school to home daily.  Keyboards will stay at school.

I am so excited to see my Kindergarteners!!!!!

Thank you for your support during this crazy start to the school year!!
