Happy 2024!

Winter break flew by in the blink of an eye!  While it's tough having to set an alarm and put on real clothes every day to come back to work lol I always enjoy seeing the kids again!  I have loved hearing about their breaks, gifts from Santa, family time and more!

The students did a nice job transitioning back to school and, for most, it was like we hadn't even been gone!  They didn't miss a beat!  I'm so proud of them!

Fundations: we reviewed how to correctly form uppercase letters E, F, G, H.  We jumped right back into learning how to "tap out" 3 letter words when reading and writing.  Check your child's Friday Folder for the Fundations family packet for ways to extend their learning at home. I strongly encourage you to do the daily "tapping out words" activities with them.

You will notice that your child's optional handwriting homework in the Friday Folder is different.  It is practice for uppercase and lowercase letters and is 2 sided.  To earn their prize, they must complete all parts of both sides.  The coloring portion must be neat, 3 star coloring, and not scribbles.

Next week's new spelling words:

dad

Writing Workshop: this week we worked on two special writing activities to share about what we did over winter break and to set a goal or resolution for the new year.  Each day we had a share time where we shared about our winter break and recorded our sharing on this paper.  Check your child's folder to see their writing!

Math: we worked on teen numbers, ten frames, and combining pattern blocks in different ways to make a hexagon.

Friday Craft: we combined fine arts and science with this week's craft!  We read the beautiful book Snowballs by Lois Ehlert.  This authors signature style is collaging vibrant cut paper and textured found objects, like buttons, fabric and seeds to create her illustrations.  We copied her style and created our own unique snowmen to bring home today!
We also learned about the water cycle and how snow is formed.  We are hoping for some snow next week!
