Thank you!

Thank you so much for spoiling me on my birthday today!  We enjoyed a delicious cookie cake and drinks, provided by Kayla Hagedorn and Ambria Bade.  I LOVED the group gift of items for my trip to Italy and Germany this summer and the many individual cards, gifts and special treats!  I plan to enjoy my actual birthday on Sunday at Busch Stadium with my family and will hopefully see a Cardinal win!

A look at our learning...

Fundations: this week we focused on the diagraph ck.  We are learning that this diagraph appears at the end of a word AND follows a short vowel sound.  Check your Friday Folder for ways to work on this at home as well.

Shared Reading: we reviewed the tricky word said and I'm happy to report that every child spelled it correctly on their test this time!  It will continue to appear weekly on the spelling test, so keep practicing.  We continue to work on strategies to use when we come to an unknown word when reading.

Next week's spelling words:

they

one

Writing Workshop: we finished up our opinion writing unit this week.  The students have done a nice job of stating their opinion and writing 3 reasons why they have that opinion.  Next week, we will begin our third and final writing unit for Kindergarten; informational writing.  We are tying this writing unit into our Kindergarten Service Learning Project.  We will learn about Monarch Butterflies and learn how to write an informational text to share what we have learned.  In May, we will have caterpillars in our classroom and watch them go through the stages to turn into a butterfly.  We will release the butterflies once they are ready.  This will be a fun unit full of writing, science and service learning!

Math: addition and subtraction was our focus all week and the students loved it! We have focused on showing how we know an answer to a story problem using pictures, numbers and words.  We also learned how using a number line can you help you solve math problems. They really liked the domino addition math game on Thursday!  Ask your child all about it!

Friday Craft: we learned all about the solar eclipse happening on Monday and made a craft to go along with it!  They are very excited for Monday!  I can't wait to hear all about it when we return to school on Tuesday!

April Fool's Day: I love a good April Fool's Day trick, all in good fun!  Check out the class Facebook page to see how I tricked the kiddos!  A few pictures below.

Lunch with the principal: yay Asher! He was chosen to have Lunch with the Principal for the month of April! He enjoyed lunch and games with Mr. Foulk and these other lucky Kindergarteners!

Spirit Wear Monday: we love when everyone wears their spirit wear on Monday's!  Great turn out this week!

Thank you: thank you to Kaylee's mom, Di, for the BEAUTIFUL door decoration!  The detail that went into this is amazing! Inside each flower is every child's name in our class!  It has received many compliments!

Fun with friends
