Thank you to everyone who attended parent-teacher conferences this week. I enjoyed showing you how much your child has grown, academically and socially, during the 1st trimester of Kindergarten. A big thank you to everyone who volunteered to work a shift at the Scholastic Book Fair, donated a book to the classroom or donated items for teacher and staff dinner on Monday and Wednesday. It is greatly appreciated!
A look at our learning...
Fundations: this week we learned the name, sound and correct letter formation for lowercase x and y. We only have TWO LETTERS IN THE ALPHABET LEFT TO LEARN! YAY!
Please use the verbal prompts below when helping your child form these letters:
x-slant down, slant back
y-slant down, slant baaaackkkk
Slant down letters can be tricky for some kiddos. If you notice this is tough for your child, I'd suggest some activities that support crossing the midline. There are SO MANY activities that work on this skill. Click here to see a few. Even just having them stand up (without a pencil) and making the "slant down" motion with their arm going across their body is good practice.
Shared Reading & Spelling: we read the Big Books Opposites and What is it?. Both featured our new spelling word is. We also learned a poem called Fall, that is sung to the tune of Are You Sleeping? Ask your child to sing it to you!

Writing Workshop: we have compiled a nice list of writing topics. We can use this resource when we have finished one story and are ready to write a new piece. Students also have a small copy to keep in their writing folder as a reference. We write stories about ourselves because that is what we are experts on! Writing something that we know about allows students to focus on the craft of writing. What we write about doesn't have to be big, elaborate things like vacations, but rather every day things: going to Target, playing with our friends in the neighborhood, trick or treating, losing a first tooth, etc.
Math: this week we have continued to learn about Doubles (1+1, 2+2, 3+3, 4+4, 5+5) as well as adding and subtracting within 10 by using a number rack and 10 frame. Look for ways to extend this learning in their Friday Folder. As always, the papers in the Friday Folder are for you to keep at home and do not need to be returned if they are on the "Keep at Home" side.
Turkeys in Disguise: we have had so much fun sharing our turkeys in disguise this week! I love the creativity and hope you have enjoyed completing this project as a family! Check out the cute turkeys we have so far! I think it's safe to say they area all properly disguised and will be safe this holiday season! If your child hasn't turned theirs in yet, you have until next Friday, November 21st. The extra day off tomorrow would be a great time to work on this! If you mis-placed yours and need a new one, please send me an email.
Library Check-out Next Week: due to many students attending the Mizzou basketball game field trip on Thursday (earned with Dojo points they chose to cash in), our library day will be moved to Tuesday next week. Please make sure your child has their library books in their backpack on this day.
Reminder: Specialists and Support Staff Gift Card Drive
Our amazing families spoil classroom teachers throughout the year in so many
thoughtful ways. This drive is our chance to show some extra appreciation to
our Specialists and Support Staff, who may not have their
own “class” of students but play such an important role in supporting our
school and your children every day.
We’re collecting gift cards to share with them during the upcoming holiday season. Every amount helps, whether it’s $5 or $20, your generosity will brighten someone’s day!
While gift cards were originally due tomorrow, there’s still time! We’d love
to have them by next Monday if you need the weekend
to pick one up. There are still plenty of spots to fill!

Pick up an extra $5–$10 card to donate! Stopping at Hy-Vee, Target, Trader Joe’s, or grabbing a bite
