Golden Broom & Talent Show

Yay!  Our class won the Golden Broom Award for one of the last times this school year!  This mean the custodians thought we did the best job out of all K-2 classrooms of keeping our classroom and bathroom clean last week!

Today we watched the 1st annual BEU Talent Show and WOW, do we have some talented kiddos at our school!
There is a performance tonight at 6:30 if you'd like to attend.  It lasts about an hour.
Check out some of the talent below!

Thank you!

Thank you!!!

Every year I am blown away at the generosity shown from students and parents during Teacher Appreciation Week!  From the kid made cards and pictures to the MANY food treats (I probably gained 10 pounds this week), gifts and flowers I am forever grateful! I failed at taking pictures of everything, but below are a few I did get!  It may sound corny, but teaching your amazing children is truly the best gift!  Over my 14 years of teaching I have taught approximately 275-300 children (WOW!) and they all will forever be my "kids" and I will always love them and remember them!  My greatest wish is that they always remember their Kindergarten teacher with fond memories as well!  I can't wait to see where this great group of 19 kiddos will go in the next 5, 10, 20 years!  Please stay in touch and keep me updated!

The last days...
Library Check-out: This past Tuesday was our last library check-out day for the school year.  Please have the kiddos return their library books on Tuesday like normal, but know they will no longer be checking out and bringing home new books.

Reading Homework: This week was our last week for Tuesday/Thursday night reading homework.  The kiddos will not bring home reading bags next week.  Please continue to read/have your child read to you for 20 minutes at least 4 times per week throughout the summer.  It is statistically proven that if children are not read to/read to others during the summer, they will slide backwards in their learning.  Meaning if they are leaving Kindergarten on reading level, but do not read regularly over the summer, will not enter first grade on level.  "The Summer Slide" is a real thing!  So keep on reading!  They had a blast at the public library this year and I encourage you to visit this summer!

Counselor: Wednesday was our last counselor session for the year.  We have enjoyed our twice a month lessons with Mrs. Harris, Mrs. Davison and Mrs. Roof!  They talked about all of the things they have learned this year, things they are grateful for, things they love about their teacher (awwww) and favorite memories.  It was a very sweet lesson and I loved hearing all they had to share!

More fun still to come...
*please make sure your child is at school, and on time, each day so they don't miss out on the fun!

Hy-Vee field trip

We had a great time on our field trip to the Hy-vee on Nifong!
Thanks to Ms. Paula, the dietitian for a great tour!
We were able to see a pizza being made (which we were able to bring back to school with us and eat), the produce department (and we each got a cutie), the baker showed us how she makes flowers for cakes and cupcakes (and we got cookies), we were able to smell some stinky cheese in the deli (and bring home some yummy cheese to eat) and go behind the freezers and coolers to see where cold things and pallets of food are stored.
We also left with a fortune cookie!
I'm thinking the kids are good and full today!
They also have a nutrition workbook we worked on and they can finish at home.

May the 4th (be with you)

The kiddos were super-pumped for Super Hero Day today and they looked so cute!
This special day was put on by our lunch ladies to kick-start "School Nutrition Employees Week" which runs from today though next week.  If your child has time this weekend to make our lunch ladies a card, I know they would appreciate it.  They provide wonderful meals to fuel our brains to help us learn!

Yay Ella!
She was chosen to have
 "Lunch with the Principal"
for the month of May!
The kiddos know that they don't need to be sad if they weren't chosen this year for this or Citizen of the Month because they will have many more chances in 1st-5th grade! It's all about being Positive!  One of our BEU expectations!

Yearbooks
Yearbooks will be sent home on Tuesday.  If you missed out on ordering one, there will be a few for sale on Tuesday morning at 8:00 in front of the office.  $10 cash only. First come, first serve.  They turned out so beautiful!

Next week's spelling words:
mom
dad
This will be our final set of new words.  We will take our test next Friday, as usual
On May 16th we will take a spelling test over all 49 word wall words we have learned this year.  Although it will be long, it should be easy as these are words they should be experts on.  Please help them practice over the next few weeks.

Friday Folders
Please check your child's Friday Folder carefully this weekend.  There are many things in there that pertain to next week: field trip info for Monday, final Scholastic book orders, Six Flags ticket if your child participated in the reading program, BEU newsletter, tie-dye information, etc.

Mothersingers

Today the K-2 students were able to see a performance from the Columbia Mothersingers.  This wonderful group has been around for more than 70 years.  They are a group of mothers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers who love singing.  They practice weekly and tour most CPS schools each year and many other places around the area.  It truly is a special CPS tradition!  I always know the end of the year is near when the Mothersingers come to school!  The children were smiling and singing along the entire 30 minutes.  This years performance featured Disney songs!

Happy May Day

Happy May Day!
Today we made flower baskets and were super sneaky and delivered these surprise baskets to many classrooms around our school!  Ask your child what classroom the surprised with a May Day basket! This is always one of my favorite days and memories from when I was a child.
