New Friend & A Fire Truck Visit

We have a new friend!
His name is Jo!
We are so excited to get to know him!

Fire Prevention Week is October 7-13th.  Today we had a City of Columbia fire truck visit Kindergarten.  They even got called out to an emergency while talking to us so the kiddos got to see them in action.  Don't worry, they came back to finish showing us the truck.
(sorry some of the pictures came out blurry, not sure why)
The firefighters asked that all families please talk to their children about 2 ways out of their house in case of a fire AND where your outdoor meeting place is.  A few kiddos could tell us their families plan, but not many.  This would be a great conversation to have this week.

We also had a firefighter from Holts Summit come and show us his gear.  His daughter, Meredith, is in Mrs. Wright's Kindergarten class.

We also learned about Christopher Columbus today during our read aloud time.  We watched a story on the SMARTboard about him.
Here is what we learned:
*he was a sailor
*he lived far away across the ocean
*he wanted to sail west to look for treasure
*he met the Indians/Native Americans living in America and they shared food and gold with him
*he went back across the sea to tell his friends and family about this place, now called America
