Lunch with the Principal & ST Math

Yay Aurora!
She was chosen to have
Lunch with the Principal
for the month of September!
Every month, one student from each classroom will be chosen to eat lunch and play games with either Mr. Woods or Mrs. Rogers.  They also receive a special, personalized place-mat to keep.

ST Math
Today we started ST Math in our classroom.  ST math is a program our district has used the past several years.  ST math works on visual and spatial-temporal approaches to solving and understanding math. It is all done on the computer or tablet.  There isn't any talking.  The children have to solve all the problems using problem solving skills.  Our "ST Math" day will always be on Tuesday's in our classroom.  This means that rather than me teaching a traditional math lesson during our math block, all students will be on a device working on ST Math.  They will be able to access ST Math during other parts of the week, but Tuesday is the one day we use the entire math time to ensure every child is accessing the program.  Every child has their own unique password to access their "game."  They move at their own pace and work on skills as they are ready (i.e. not every child will be on the same level at the same time).  More information will come home in the Friday Folder, but I wanted you to be aware if they come home talking about it tonight!  They may call it "Jiji math" rather than ST Math.  Jiji is the name of the penguin they are trying to guide through the "game."
